The City of Harahan will begin collecting sales taxes in the amount of .8% on everything that is currently taxable within the corporate limits of the City of Harahan beginning July 1, 2022. This means that your taxable transactions within the City of Harahan will be taxed at an increased rate. Currently, these transactions are being taxed at 9.2% (4.45% Louisiana + 4.75% Jefferson Parish).

Beginning July 1, 2022, these same transactions will be taxed at a rate of 10% (4.45% Louisiana + 4.75% Jefferson Parish + 0.8% City of Harahan). If you do business in or deliver taxable items anywhere within the City of Harahan, you will need to begin collecting these sales taxes on July 1, 2022.

The tricky part is that while all locations in the City of Harahan have a zip code of 70123, all areas in zip code 70123 are not in Harahan. To help The Louisiana Uniform Local Sales Tax Board has developed a Sales Tax Lookup Tool on their website, www.lulstb.com. The direct link to the lookup page is https://rates.salestaxportal.com/public .

Please remember to adjust all methods you use to calculate and collect sales taxes from your clients and customers. All cash registers, Point of Sales (POS) systems, QuickBooks sales tax items, etc. should be adjusted prior to July 1, 2022, so you are ready to begin collecting the additional tax on July 1, 2022.

Updated forms have been generated to reflect this new sales tax in both paper and electronic formats. Online filers must update their form selection with Parish E-file or Sales Tax Online accordingly. If we prepare your sales tax forms, we will make the necessary changes based on information you provide.
